We Are Cherished is a ministry that reaches out to the women in the sex industry in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area. Our heart is to reach each woman who is or has been in this industry, telling them that they are loved, valued and cherished. We also desire to bring awareness to the hearts of those who might cast judgment on these women and men. Below are some daunting statistics.

Statistics of women in the sex industry:

*Up to 95% of women in the sex industry were sexually abused as children.

*Average age of a prostitute in the US is 12-14 years old.

*73% of women in prostitution have been raped more than five times.

There are approximately 65 clubs in the DFW area. Our trained outreach volunteers go into an average of 14 clubs a month carrying gifts full of lip-gloss, fun earrings, lotion or body spray. Each bag carries a note that tells them how precious they are and that some of us have been in the business and know personally the struggles of the industry. The card also has all of our contact information and an invitation for our Wednesday night dinner and support group.

We Are Cherished is a holistic ministry. Not only do we do outreaches, we are called to help walk a woman through freedom and restoration. We provide support through our Wednesday night dinner and group, mentorship program, counseling, Cherished Boutique, recourses for job searches, resume’ help, childcare, housing, financial help on an individual basis and budget classes. We build a family and a community around each woman so she doesn’t have to walk through this journey alone.

God laid the ministry to reach out to the women in this industry because I used to be a stripper myself. For years he put a burden on my heart for the women trapped in this industry but I wanted to keep my past in secret. But on August 24, 2010 I argued with Him that I couldn’t save these women and He told me, “Polly, it is not your job to save them it is your job to love them.” He spoke such promise and truth over me that day I prayed and told Him I would serve Him in any way to reach His hurting daughters.

He has held to His promise. Since We Are Cherished went on its very first outreach on November 2010 we have grown in size and have seen 14 women leave the sex industry. Our Wednesday night group at the Cherished House is busting at the seams as women pour in to hear the truth about who God made them to be.
